Materials:
- Clear plastic tub or container
- Net pots (small containers with holes)
- Nutrient solution (hydroponic fertilizer)
- pH test kit
- Water pump
- Air stone and air pump (for oxygenation)
- Plant seedlings or seeds
- Begin by discussing hydroponics as a soil-less growing method popular in vertical farming.
- Fill the plastic tub with water and add the nutrient solution. Check and adjust the pH to around 5.5 to 6.5 using the pH test kit.
- Place the air stone inside the tub and connect it to the air pump. This will oxygenate the water.
- Make holes in the lid of the plastic tub, large enough to snugly fit the net pots.
- Place plant seedlings or seeds in the net pots and position them in the holes.
- Ensure the water level is such that the bottom part of the net pot is submerged. This allows the plant roots to absorb nutrients while also getting oxygen.
- Place the tub in a location with adequate light, either natural or artificial.
- Monitor plant growth and regularly check the water level, pH, and nutrient concentration.
